The idea for a work of art may be complete at inception, but I generally begin with an intuitive idea that is completed during the work. I am an iconographic painter and delight in playing with a simple, profound image. Aesthetic concerns are an endless source of inspiration, beauty an elusive goal. I want a painting to have visual impact and clarity. The intent is explained through color and pictorial elements which convey the meaning of the work. It is for the viewer to put together the result and enjoy the work much as I did in creating it. I try to make an artwork that is both exploration and explanation, revealing of human nature and experience. What is most valuable in art is what is revealed to be in common, providing insight and understanding of our human condition. |
